I’m one of those terrible people who start preparing for Christmas far earlier than should be allowed, and chances are you know someone the same as me. If so, you should by now understand how important this time of the year is to us. We all see Christmas differently, but something I hope we can all agree on; Christmas should be a time for fun and laughter. It serves to melt the coldest of hearts and it allows us all to act just a little less grumpy.
I have not always been like this, like so many of you, I saw Christmas as a fickle, commercial holiday that added little to my daily life. However, following a few strange occurrences, I suppose you could say I was the victim of a little Christmas Carol magic; I now see Christmas very differently. It is now a large part of my life, and being able to express how happy it makes me is very important. Moreover, working for an employer who not only allows a range of Christmas activities but encourages it, is superb.
Ever since I joined Datasharp back in 2017, I’ve seen the Christmas season grow within the company. From the first year that saw me attempt a ten-foot crepe-paper Christmas mural, to the ongoing departmental decorating rivalry we have now, it is always great fun. Even when my colleagues desecrated my mural with photos of themselves, I couldn’t be angry. We came together as a team to have fun, which was the most important part of the entire season.
Over the years, it has become apparent that I am not the only person here at Datasharp who enjoys Christmas. Colleagues no longer frown at me when I mention Christmas in September—or even February—No, instead, Datasharp has embraced Christmas even more. The Halls get decked, and Merry’s get made. Team parties are arranged, and get-togethers are got. Even the bah-humbugs amongst us are starting to thaw—just a little.
As a company, we aren’t ignorant of the realities of Christmas in the current climate. We rely on teamwork and togetherness every day, and these sentiments become even more significant during the holiday season. Christmas can be a lonely, hard time, especially considering the extra strain on families currently. Many of us know of someone struggling. This is why the team at Datasharp took it upon themselves to commit to supporting local charities. This year, we are working with the wonderful team at the Truro Foodbank which provides much-needed resources to the community throughout the Winter. This small gesture served to galvanise us as teammates, and friends and bettered the company. It makes me proud to be a part of it.
Many of our activities throughout the year have served to bring us together as teams, none more so than Christmas at Datasharp. Buffets and lunch outings happen regularly throughout December, either during the work week or over the weekends. With Exeter Christmas Market just a quick shot up the A30—avoiding the roadworks—there are plenty of festivities to help fill us with Christmas cheer—and eggnog…don’t forget the eggnog.
It’s safe to say that Christmas at Datasharp is one of the highlights of the year, even if I’m not allowed to start decorating until December, I wouldn’t change it for anything.
From the team at Datasharp UK.
We wish you Season’s Greetings and a very Happy New Year.
